Download a copy.  Possibly the last update of all three tools.  See below for a video demo of LenovoLook Pro, the Android search engine app.

2017-05-20          post update to LenovoLook Pro, and update the demo movie for it.

2016-12-16           update Lenovo price/supply files from Cdn/U.S. Business Partners
add more systems missed in earlier updates.
NOTE: LAST UPDATE OF THE CONFIGURATOR.  NO FURTHER UPDATES WILL BE PUBLISHED.

My passion to maintain these three tools for free is exhausted after seven years, after the very many obstacles that prevent me from doing the work with the quality I expect to deliver.  Free end user support will continue.

Now available, a more full but still incomplete version of the FRU to Marketing Cross Reference database.....

A problem has surfaced when choosing to display mutiple price/supply values, such that PSCFG crashes.  This is under investigation, and as soon as a fix is available it will be posted here.  In the mean time try to keep your choices for price & supply values to perhaps four.  When the fix is available we will be back to eight.  The first pass on fixing this is complete.  There are still occasionally anomalies in displaying prices.  We believe these are a result of the growth in the number of partnumbers in the database.

Back when this tool was fully supported & funded by IBM, the database eventually contained the entire PC Division product line containing US and Canadian Desktops, Notebooks, Workstations, Servers, Racks, options for all of these, software and services.  Withdrawn system units were retained as far back as 5 years.  In addition it contained the hubs, routers and switches of the Network Hardware Division.  The latter had approached PCD to include their product line due to delays in the delivery of their own configuration tool.  Total product content at that time was five thousand partnumbers.

That compares to the current version, which has no Cdn. French system units, none of the hubs, routers and switches, and no services (these have been removed as Services "Brand" has proven to be more work than any other Brand, and requires excessive amounts of fruitless labour.)  The new additions include tablets, and EMEA system units (possibly similar in numbers to missing Canadian French models).  The surprise is that the database has grown from 5,000 partnumbers to >25,000, of which ~13,000 are system units alone.  This has meant a fundamental change in the main purpose of the onfigurator, and the companion tool, LenovoLook.  Given the number of system units, it would seem the major value ot the Configurator and LenovoLook is their ability to instantly locate a system unit matching a set of customer requirements.

Please contact me directly if you wish to see channel supply.  That file is not included with the ZIP package.

Try it yourself!  I think you will like it.  Telephone training sessions in N. America are available at no charge.  Outside N. America perhaps we can try Skype.  If you can set up a webinar that makes it easiest.  Each zip file is approx. 4 to 6 GB.  The files will no longer be updated approximately monthly, as further development has stopped.  The software has a built-in clock, which will remind you to check for an update if the data is older than 21 days, but following the link back to this page will reveal there will be no further updates.   Questions, suggestions, comments and bug reports are invited.

If you wish the German language version, download PSC-DE.ZIP.  Make sure when unzipping that the engine (PSCW32.EXE) is allowed to get past your security settings and appear with the other files.  Put them all in whatever folder/directory you like.   It makes no changes to your system or your registry, as there is no "install", and files are not scattered across your disk - it is self-contained.  Drag the yellow icon (PSCW32.EXE) out to your Desktop as a Shortcut.  Right click on the new Shortcut, and go to Properties.  It will show drive\path\pscw32.exe.   Add to this a space, then deutsch.pro, so the Properties will then show drive\path\pscw32.exe deutsch.pro

Close it and you are ready to go with the German language version.

If you wish the US, Canadian English or UK version, repeat the same steps as above, starting with the PSC-WW.ZIP version, and use either uk.pro, canada.pro, or usa.pro.  You could, in fact, have multiple Shortcuts, each with a unique PRO file.  Make sure you name them differently so they are easy to identify.  You can put all three language versions (i.e. ZIP files) in a single folder/directory, as many of the files are common.

The French version is set up the same way, using PSC-FR.ZIP and france.pro or cdn-fr.pro.

Each version will have products and prices unique to that country.  Lenovo does not make their list prices available to the public, so they may not be as up-to-date as other sources.  Channel inventory data that can be displayed in the Configurator menus is available on request to Lenovo employees.  Any Business Partners who would like to see their own data (e.g. prices, supply values, SKUS, etc.) appear in the menus should contact me for free assistance.

Other language versions are possible, with Spanish partially complete.   Partial price lists may be available for several other Western Europe countries.   Customer interest will help determine if further translation work is undertaken.

German language version (~5.0MB)  This contains products announced in Europe, and is intended for use in Germany and Austria.  The work of translating all the product descriptions is not fully complete, and is on-going.  Any assistance in colloquial German would be welcome.  Effective  13 Dec  2016.  (updated prices direct from Lenovo are no longer available.   I never found a Lenovo Business partner who publishes list prices I could have used instead.)

English language version (~6.7GB).   This contains products announced in Europe and North America, and is intended for use in English Canada, the UK or the USA.  Effective 13 Dec 2016 .  USA and Canadian prices from Business Partners are available for the full product line.  Supply values are also available from the US Business Partner. UK prices only available for part of the product content and are not current.   List prices  direct from Lenovo are not available.   I never found a Lenovo Business partner in EMEA who publishes list prices I could have  used instead.

French language version (~6.0GB).   This contains products announced in Europe and Canada, and is intended for use in either French Canada or France. Both the GUI and the product descriptions have been translated into French. Any assistance in colloquial French would be welcome.  Canadian List prices from a Cdn. Business Partner are available for the full product line.  Effective 13 Dec 2016.    Prices for France are not available from Lenovo.  Same goes for Spain, Portugal, Belgium, etc.    I never found a Lenovo Business partner in EMEA who publishes list prices I could have used instead.)

US ThinkPads as of 2016-12-13 (~2GB).   This PDB file contains approx.. 2,200 current ThinkPad products as of that date, and price/supply values from one U.S. Business Partner. Note:  IdeaPads and SL/Edge models are not included.  You can create a database with those models, either a separate one, or included with the ThinkPads, yourself, if you get a copy of the Configurator and install it.  The product descriptions in the above file are in English. If you install the French or German version the product descriptions will be in those languages.  The file is intended for use with the Android and BlackBerry apps, as a quick reference when you need to look up the technical details, price and supply for a partnumber.  You can also use multi-search to help locate a system matching your requirements.  Updates will no longer be done to this file. If you install PSCFG on your own PC then you can create multiple databases yourself, with one or more other product families, in different languages, and for different countries. Click on the Android/BlackBerry link on the left panel for more details      There is now a short description of how to create your own databases.  Search inside this database for "manual".

Germany/Austria ThinkPads as of 2016-12-13 (~2GB).   This PDB file containsapprox,. 2,000 current ThinkPad products for Germany/Austria as of that date, but no price values as they are not available from Lenovo. Note:  IdeaPads and SL/Edge models are not included.  You can create a database with those models, either a separate one, or included with the ThinkPads, yourself, if you get a copy of the Configurator and install it.  The product descriptions in the above file are in German. If you install the French or English version the product descriptions will be in those languages.  The file is intended for use with the Android and BlackBerry apps, as a quick reference when you need to look up the technical details, price and supply for a partnumber.  You can also use multi-search to help locate a system matching your requirements.  Updates will be no longer be done to this file, nor will the  Configurator itself be updated. If you install PSCFG on your own PC then you can create multiple databases yourself, with one or more other product families, in different languages, and for different countries. Click on the Android/BlackBerry link on the left panel for more details      There is now a short description of how to create your own databases.  Search inside this database for "manual".

French ThinkStations as of 2016-12-13 (~400 KB).   This PDB file contains current ThinkStation products as of that date, with product descriptions in French, but without price/supply values as Lenovo does not make them available.

French ThinkPads as of 2016-12-13(~400 KB).   This PDB file contains current ThinkPad products as of that date, with product descriptions in French, but without price/supply values as Lenovo does not make them available.

German/Austrian ThinkPads as of 2016-12-13 (~400 KB).   This PDB file contains current ThinkPad products as of that date, with product descriptions in German, but without price/supply values asLenovo does not make them available.

German ThinkServers as of 2016-12-13 (~150 KB).   This PDB file contains current ThinkServer products as of that date, with product descriptions in German, and price/supply values from one U.S. Business Partner.

US Withdrawn systems as of 2016-12-13 (~800 KB).   This PDB file contains withdrawn system units across all families.  Note: The extended descriptions are those of each model when it left the factory.  Any later upgrades - for example - to memory or the operating system - will not be listed.

As a public service, if there is any interest in posting databases with all the withdrawn systems for N. America and EMEA, I could do that if asked.  A question for users:  The number of downloads of the PDB files is higher than the number of downloads of theLenovoLook app itself.  We would be interested to hear how these files are being used without the app.

(UPDATED 2016-12-13)   FRU to Marketing Cross Reference demo version as of 2016-12-13 (~250 KB).  This file is no longer a work in progress, and further updates will not be forthcoming. As mentioned above, I have exhausted my passion to maintain these tools for free.

This PDB file contains FRU (Field Replaceable Unit) partnumbers, (often called service parts) and their Marketing equivalent.   A demo version is now available. (See above). Product descriptions will be in English. The file is intended for use with the Android and BlackBerry app (LenovoLook Lite, and LenovoLook Pro), as a quick reference when you need to address questions about "parts left over" after a field upgrade. For example, a two-memory-socket system unit that comes standard with two memory modules, if upgraded, will require one or more bigger modules, and the replacement of one or both standard modules. What to DO with the removed parts has been a difficult question until now. Now, finally, there is a crisp answer.

  1. Using the LenovoLook app together with the FRU to Marketing Cross Reference database, you can identify the marketing part equivalent for the removed module(s). The FRU database will (in many cases) also list the machine types (system units) that support the option in question.  Next we are looking at enhancing LenovoLook Pro to allow a Copy to Clipboard of all matching systems, so you can email the list of models to your customer.  Step 1 is now complete, identifying possible homes for surplus memory.
  2. Suppose the FRU database lists the memory module as supported on ThinkPad L450.  You can switch to the US ThinkPads database, and search for l450+open-yes (LenovoLook Lite uses a comma separator between strings, and LenovoLook Pro uses a plus sign (+), and both use lower case for ease of use).  Make sure you tick the Description box, then press FIND.  You will get a list of all the L450 models with at least one open memory socket, ready to re-use your spare memory module.  Step 2 is now complete, identifying exactly which models have an open memory socket that will accept the removed parts.

Knowing where those surplus parts can be used will help retain their value. Often there will be more than a single supporting system with an open memory socket, and you can copy the list to the clipboard, then email it immediately to the customer, on the spot.   Development work has ceased on LenovoLook Pro for Android, as well as LenovoLook Lite for Android or Blackberry devices.

(NEW) Latest news (2016-04-02).  The text used to describe memory sockets has been changed to allow a new feature in the LenovoLook app.  Suppose you have just done a field upgrade to the memory of a ThinkPad E540, in which you removed at least one of the pair of standard memory modules, to make room for a larger memory module.  Now, you would like to find a home for that removed module.  Start the LenovoLook app, use the sample database FRU to Marketing Cross Reference, and see if the FRU number on the removed memory module is in the demo version of the database.  If so, you will also see a list of supporting system units for the marketing option equivalent partnumber.  Make a note of which of these systems you may have.  Suppose one you recognise is ThinkPad E540.  Change databases in LenovoLook to US-ThinkPads.pdb dated 2015-04-24 or later, and search for E540+open-yes.  This will locate any and all US ThinkPads E540 models with at least one open memory socket, where you could install that removed part.  The French and German versions now have this feature as well, using appropriate language.  When/if the full version of the FRU to Marketing Cross Reference is released, you will be able to see that the removed part is supported on more than just the system family from which it came.  You will then have a complete solution for your customer in the palm of your hand.

The LenovoLook Pro version of the app is now supported under Android 6.0. and automatically downloads and installs the best possible example of the value of the app - US ThinkPads.  This helps ensure that the app is ready to go when you first start it.  More enhancements are coming.
